Wairarapa has received official Dark Sky Reserve Status. This means our region is one of the best places in the world to view the never-ending star filled skies. Wairarapa’s proximity to Wellington is an exceptional point of difference for star lovers – our new Reserve is not off the beaten track and arguably, is the most accessible of the 21 protected Dark Sky Reserves in the world. Our tourism businesses are already looking skyward. Star Safari, Under the Stars and Stonehenge Aotearoa, and others will help you experience our skies, with fascinating guided tours.

Star Safari is a 90-minute night sky experience in the Wairarapa International Dark Sky Reserve with Hari and Sam, an astrobiologist and an astrophysicist. Get inspired with a learning experience regardless of the weather.
If it’s cloudy, travel to space in virtual reality (VR headsets) and visit the Moon or the Solar System. If the stars are visible, marvel at the stars looking through enormous 16” telescopes. With groups of a maximum of 10 adults, you’ll get plenty of telescope time and lots of objects to admire whilst you learn about our Southern Skies.
TOP 10 Members save 10% on the Star Safari experience; children 15 and younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Talk to the Martinborough TOP 10 reception team for availability and bookings.
